There ARE Alternatives!

Back in the early 1990s, we were told that the cold war was over, capitalism had won, and history had ended. Anyone believing otherwise was told there was no alternative. Since then we have had 9/11 and the war on terrorism, and the near-collapse of the world's financial system. The ongoing Israel-Palestine struggle is just the tip of the iceberg of conflicts all around the world, most of which go unreported.

There is now greater public awareness of the threats to our planet from climate change and depletion of natural resources, as well as the inadequacies of the complex, intertwined financial and political systems of a globalised economy.

The need for alternatives is now greater than ever. Saying that there is no alternative is like saying that 9/11 can't be history because history ended with the fall of the Berlin Wall. It's absurd.

When fraud becomes an accepted way of doing business, fair and honest trading is an alternative.

When a Jihad versus McWorld war breaks out, re-building active citizenship is an alternative.

And wherever there's war, peace-making is an alternative.

In fact there are so many alternatives it is difficult to choose between them. Indeed, there is no such thing as one right alternative, with all the others being wrong. The best we can do is to choose and follow the alternatives that appear to be most suitable for us.

The question is: how to choose? Helping people to choose an alternative is one aim of this web site.
